Hosted by: Madison's 3x Hip Hop Performer of the Year | K.I.L.O aka SkitL'z - writer | Breyon "1neofmani" Sommerville
It's not always easy being the 1st to attempt something new. For years Madison rappers have demanded their contributions be appreciated at the highest level of artistic expression. Rightfully so, for this to happen the attempt must feel genuine to the artists and players involved. In recent months K.I.L.O has been attending monthly board meetings w/ MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) staff and representatives. The goal behind the monthly meetings is to discover unique ways to increase hip-hop attendance in MAMA & Broadjam local offerings such as the 2022 MAMA Awards and signing up for Broadjam artists accounts.
Registration is now OPEN for 2022 Nominations to this year's Madison Area Music Awards "IN THE LAB"!

On June 1, 2022, the 3-time Madison Hip-Hop Performer of the year recipient, K.I.L.O aka SkitL'z, will not only display her hosting capabilities but a list of other services we offer under 1-roof. From recruiting and communicating directly with the performers about rehearsals, set time, perks, & announcements, K.I.L.O and her "1444 team" (address to her office) treated this opportunity no different to the events they host throughout the year. Creating an organic buzz online isn't so tough if experience is on your side. K.I.L.O was able to tap Breyon "1neofmani" Sommerville shoulder to assist with social media, blogging, and weekly newsletters after she finalized the concert flyer for Hip-Hop Night @ The Bur Oak.
150+ people responded to the event which speaks to K.I.L.O's influence and likability to engage. MAMA's are co-hosts and recently shared the concert details with their email list. The artists selected to perform, outside of being connected to 1444, were approached based on what they individually offer on and off the stage. All performers will receive premium Broadjam artists accounts *and must upload new music in order to be considered for MAMA Awards nominees. Performers MAMA Awards registration will also be waived as a token of appreciation for participating in Hip Hop Night @ Bur Oak.
Let's Meet The Performers.
Marcus Porter
Madison, Wisconsin, is home to Hip-hop and R&B artist Marcus Porter. Having always been a boy from Wisconsin, Marcus Porter brings forth his delectable musical creations, which he deems essential, uplifting, and inspirational.
Utilizing hues of Indie, Backpack Rap, and hints of R&B, Marcus Porter began to create music for his own ears until he realized that he needed his music to resonate with other people in the world.
There isn't a well-known rapper in the 608 that doesn't know of Marcus Porter. He's situated seriously inside and outside of the hip-hop space. This artist produces his music completely InHouse by himself and his mental inspirations. If you know Porter, then you know his music is the sound of the BLACK experience in America. Not to box the artist in or undermine his abilities to talk that sh*+! The reasons we love Porter expands beyond his pen.
Listen to the first words in GLOW ft. Juciee Monroe, as Marcus Porter raps: "I AM" #KingSpeak
Meish
Meish is a hiphop recording artist and music producer who produces all her own beats and when she's not recording with Marcus Porter (mentioned above), Meish also records her own vocals. Releasing "Love vs Leverage" in 2020, the artist has remained relevant to the culture by releasing music, being a sneaker-head, and reminding US of she's a threat in every way as she randomly shows off her features causing a frenzy amongst her rap peers. Her visuals on YouTube date back to 3 years ago when her first video was uploaded. Meish is very lyrical and witty in her delivery, allowing the listener to go on this audio experience with the artist. Like most of the artists on this bill, 2020 gave us all a pair of non-refundable emergency brakes to put on our musical careers. So, to be back performing live in front of real people is like a breath of fresh air. Here are some records to press play on in anticipation of Meish's performance.
"working in dirt in a pair of 4s they allergic to paying us rappers more."
I can hear the homie Willie Wright, now. This #WhatGODLooksLike i bet. There's more to Meish than her appearance. Obviously, the artist can spit with the best of them. Checkout her latest visual release featuring Hypno Carlito titled Oh Momma |
"Everyone has a standard they want to reach, i want to be the standard you strive to reach. I produce every song I drop which makes the dream that much greater but remember stay humble and hungry." - Meish
Dude Da Def
Dude Da Def is a hiphop recording artist and spoken word landmark in Madison. Dude has shared stages with Madison's most notable rappers and poetry artists in the last 5 years. In 2020 during the nationwide recognition of George Floyd, Duowan "Dude Da Def" amongst other local artists were commissioned to offer visual artistic expressions throughout the corridors of Madison's downtown neighborhood. Dude explained his mural as something to "force white passersby to put themselves in the shoes of the police officer and understand how the police view Black people and Black children."
Poetic Ye
Poetic Ye is confidence in human form. Ye is an unapologetic BLACK man, hiphop artist, and entrepreneur. Taking control of his independence by removing his sound from digital platforms. Giving his supporters 1 option to support him directly. Poetic Ye released a project to test this theory titled: "No Platforms - Take 1 : 1 Take" the project was available for free and on demand by simply contacting Ye. Once contacted, Ye would then send his full project to the preferred email of the supporter. This allows the artist to collect data on his fan base and communicate with them outside of his music releases. Since his release, Poetic Ye has released music videos and interviews to complement his offering in music. Using his talent as a service the artist is seeing success behind the scenes, with the success of fellow local artist P. Swagger's "Work" record, which Poetic Ye co-wrote and co-starred in the official visual that currently is approaching 2 million views on YouTube.
For the first time since 2020, Ye will be hitting the stage for Hip Hop Night Hosted by: K.I.L.O. Be sure to ask the artist about his new merchandise and when you will be able to support C.A.P.O.
