Being the relative of a popular recording artist has its advantages. As great as the "These Hoes For Everybody" artist is, this blog entry is intended to highlight the greatness of Cheese's existence. No one has the option of choosing their arrival date in this world. Which is at the heart of our life's purpose.
Connected By The 7
Instead, we spend our entire lives trying to figure out why we are here and how to apply ourselves daily. On this day, King Cheese has circled around life 36 years exactly. For as long as I can remember Cheese was always a fan favorite in all his walks of life. So to uncover his connection with men of similar interests in creating music like a Tupac or an Easy E is not a light load to carry.
It is not my intention to compare Cheese's impact to the mentioned legends but to simply acknowledge the fact that September 7th is a landmark day in hiphop under the series of events that have taken place on this day. Cheese has rarely been 1ne to disappoint in his many attempts to offer his contributions to life.
Born to his mother Debbie, who's also connected to Tupac as they both share born days on June 16th. Cheese's father Joseph played musical instruments with the influential group "Jodeci" who also completed great records like "How Do You Want It" with Tupac. Cheese mother and father are both from Peoria, Illinois aka The 9ine.
Destined To Be Different
In elementary school, during his JV football experience Cheese was the coach on the field. Making his debut as the starting QB for Manual High School JV league. You would've thought high school kids was on the field during their weekend home games. I can recall walking/riding up to the games and being able to hear loud cheers from blocks away. Cheese or one of his all-star teammates had most likely scored a TD, sacked the opposing QB, or were expectedly outperforming their competitors. Year after year my mother's trophy case would collect more Gold than dust.
Higher Self
Cheese, becoming more athletic and awarded found himself in bidding wars as our mother decided to move from Peoria's South Side to Cheese's then rival gangs/school territory labeled the "hilltop."
Schools would call and complain that Cheese (Micki) left one school to solely play basketball for another. This caused a fuss and Cheese had to sit out a number of games when the season started. This only built a bigger buzz about this 13 year old kid with a crazy first step and a sticky jump shot. When Cheese made his debut for Loucks after transferring from Blaine middle school. All speculations about if the school had a fair shot against schools like Treywn and Blaine were immediately silenced.
Rerouting
After Cheese graduated middle school our mother had finally decided to give in to the interest of moving back to our residing roots on the south side. Now, a freshman at none other than the popular, yet only high school on Peoria's south end, Manual High. Home of Howard Nathan, Frank Williams, Sergio McClain, Marcus Griffin, & many other awarded local legends.
No run in a Manual jersey or any other Peoria school has even came close (yes, the disrespect is there) to what was done 4 straight years from 1994 - 1997 in representation of the south side of Peoria. Arriving in the earlier 2000s, Cheese had again found himself in the spotlight of great company. No longer called on to carry his team to victory every game the "Know My Name" artists learned more names of people he still refers to as his friends today. Cheese, being positioned as 1ne of them dudes, made friends on and off the court without much effort.
Teammate or Ten Toes
Cheese found himself playing both sides of the fence. During school he was the cool kid with a starting position on the basketball team and outside of school he was known as a Dirty Boy Click representative. Compromised mostly of star players in basketball, football, and neighborhood popularity. DBC either inspired people or intimidated them but not too many people would disrespect them. They would have rival competitors mostly from other schools or sides of town where those kids were the kids everyone respected. After the egos and hormones of high school came and went. The kids from that particular era had grown up and began to view their counterparts as a class
instead of individual crews. Being in a spotlighted position of his peers Cheese naturally grew an interest in music. Now, not only was the 6"1 athlete showcasing his skills on the hardwoods. Cheese and homies would form a rap group called 300. The original group consisted of King Cheese, Talley, & Montana. Their label was called Fly Guy Entertainment. This was at first, the rap branch of the Dirty Boy Click. Cheese can be seen with Montana in the video below. They were at a gas station in Atlanta after a performing live.
Releasing multiple mixtapes, touring the country, and making great music all came to an end from the 300 group standpoint. With Cheese leaving the group for personal reasons. The city always wondered what made him give the run up? Over the years the members have shared their support for all original parties with Talley and Montana remaining label mates to this day. May peace and blessings reign on their paths.
