With his single and music video, “Anti-Sober,” on the way, we took some time to hear more from Iri Da King. Continue reading to learn more about Iri, the story behind his single, and what’s to come. What's up Iri? Let’s start with how did you get your name? What’s goin on y’all! I gave myself the name IRI cause I felt like in life, there’s ups and downs but at the end of the day, we’ll be IRI. What city are you from and where are you based now? I’m from Madison, Wisconsin but now I reside in Los Angeles, California!
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music? How did you get started? I decided I was gonna be a musician back in 5th grade. When I first joined the choir and band, I knew that I had to do something musical with my life. I started my solo vocal career shortly after high school graduation back in 2014. Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how? Actually, I never really had a musical upbringing. As far as I know, I'm the only one to actually pursue music as a career. If anything, growing up taught me discipline and determination to be the best I can. How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you? My sound is unique because it incorporates a new age feel mixed with RnB vibes and true storytelling that I get from my heavy country music influence. Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative? I love to spend time with my son, Prince, and stream games on Twitch as well as get my hands dirty doin car stuff!
Name your top 7 Local Artists? I couldn’t even name just 7. My top artists from my city is everyone putting in that work to be the best artist they can be! If they ain’t doin that, they ain’t in my top favorites. Respect. What are some of your future music career goals? To take my mom to the Grammys and to secure a future for my son. I want to give him the world he deserves.

We will be watching it close. Onto your release, “Anti Sober.” What inspired the song?
Anti Sober was inspired by heart break. It features my artist ODHONDO as well as Valious and it’s our interpretation of what we go through during times when we feel the lowest. But we know that we can’t give up. So, the other option is to be anti-sober. What is “Anti-Sober” song and visual about in your own words?
Showcasing what it’s like to battle your own demons after losing someone who you loved and cared for.
How did the music video for “Anti-Sober” come about? What was your vision for the video?
We had the thought of being abandoned. So we shot at a disclosed location that’s abandoned for that authentic feel.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from “Anti-Sober?”
That you’re not alone. If you think you’re going through it and no one else understands, we do. I do. I see you. Know you’ll be alright. Ain’t no giving up!
What are some pros and cons between doing music in Wisconsin and California?
The pro in Wisco is the community. Strong community of artistic people. The con in Wisco is that it’s not a music hub. When you think of music, you think of New York and LA. When you think of cows, milk, cheese, and drinkin you think Wisconsin.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you’ve learned so far?
You gotta have faith. If you don’t believe in yourself and your sound, how is anyone else supposed to? You gotta be your biggest fan.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects that we should be on the lookout for? Please include some dates if you have them.
