Back for the 1st time! We've got local hip-hop at Breese Stadium. Marcus Porter will perform alongside local heavies like "KAT and the HURRICANE" and FORWARD MARCHING BAND. With privy working in my favor as far as having access to Marcus Porter. We wanted to highlight his performance set before the big one and our access was granted. (keep reading for live show footage)
The importance of every live show is preparation. We put MP on the spot to give us a behind the scenes rundown of his show mix, and that's just what he did. Marcus Porter is working on and writing new music all while being the ear to other local artists' sounds. What sets Marcus Porter apart from the herd is he writes lyrics, records on beats he made, and can engineer his sound as well as others. It is an honor to have such a motivated individual as a neighbor and member of the hip-hop community.
Marcus Porter delivered over 25+ minutes of the black experience in the form of hip-hop songs. This is not to be taken lightly. Marcus Porter's music is the sound of our ancestors speaking through this humanitarian vessel. Remove the instruments from your favorite artists' music. Are you still inspired by their words without the assistance of bass, snares, or high hats? Dare you to listen to the words of Marcus Porter with or without instruments and I guarantee an intriguing lyrical journey.
Marcus Porter operates his music company (Oddly Arranged Media) a few offices down the hall from LessWork Local Lifestyle, HQ. The luxury of being able to tap on an artist like K.I.L.O's shoulder isn't something MP takes lightly or for granted. The two ganged up to create the song called: "COCOA." This song is about loving the skin that you are in. Inspired by melanated people with intentions to uplift them with "rhematic"-words and relaxed instruments, all cultivated by Marcus Porter.
K.I.L.O enters the record on point! Always acknowledging the fact that people will view her rainbow (reigbow) flag as a solo identifier as if she isn't a woman (womyn) 1st, who also embraces being a BLACK womyn. The 3-time hiphop artist of the year raps "locs up top ghetto halo/ we paid but we broke/ stay dangerous but be WOKE" which is a perfect segway back into the chorus as Marcus sings "Loving The Skin That I'm In." Overall to add a Marcus Porter live show to your agenda, is to say you're looking to have a great night of music and a melodic version of the BLACK Experience. Other unreleased records Marcus Porter performed were songs titled:
- Leader of the Rejects
- The Concern upbeat - reminder of who MP is with the pen. poetry: - "I'm just trying to do my thang"
- untitled track - w/ BOBtheHippie
Witness audio relaxation as MP stretches out on this BOB assisted banger.
- Live & You Learn - life experience from MP point of view
- Just Me - Marcus Porter opens on topics that help him find his inner peace
- People's Champ - this is a classic sing-along record that will make you chant!
- Celebration- insight on MP. personal life - it's a Celebration I'm glad that you made it
