Midwest Women Want Money!

Add To Calendar: Yo Quiero Dinero | June 16, 2023 | Get Tickets Here.

The times of women staying home and raising the babies are far and few between. Fellas, this should not be viewed as competitive attempts against our strength. Instead, we should view accomplished women as assets to furthering our existence. Every industry could benefit from the perspectives and expertise that women deliver. Not only should women be included, but they should also be viewed as champions of their skill levels. Organizations like Midwest Mujeres, have a Black and Brown focus on women of color achieving success while navigating a space being monopolized to negate Black and Brown representation. Midwest Mujeres is not a male-bashing organization. In fact, they work and have partnered with many men to execute their mission. The company plans to focus on the Midwest 1st and expand after establishing their formula for franchising their services.

Midwest Mujeres is a Latino-led organization headed by the enthusiastic leadership of Araceli Esparza. This local movement is set out to assist companies and communities co-exist with Black and Brown women, men, and families. A credible resource for relationships, curriculum, speakers, and an attractive platform for women of color. LessWork officially worked with Midwest Mujeres last year, for their annual Yo Quiero Dinero event where they celebrate women on a journey to becoming expert tellers of their own stories. This is amazing on multiple levels of paving the way for fresh blood to share modern stories. Midwest Mujeres focus behind this annual event is, to give people a relaxing and empowering space to make new connections and listen to ‘Midwest Mujeres’ talk about how they overcame the challenges of immigrants and first-generation people.

It honestly feels like the season of sisterhood is at an all-time high. Even if it is temporary forever. The potential of unity between Black (African American) and Brown (Latino) women is a cause for a cultural push and narrative directing our LessWork community in support of Midwest Mujeres mission to get in front of this inevitable conclusion. Your opportunity to experience this year’s Yo Quiero Dinero event is on June 16, 2023. Networking hour starts at 6pm which includes live interviews, instant print photo booth, Hor d’oeuvres, games, and connections. “Telling Our Stories” Begins at 7pm and is open to the public to receive messages from expert and first-time storytellers.

Festivities will be layered with storytellers including the infamous Sagashus Levingston of Infamous Mothers. The author, entrepreneur, and educator will share her story and Infamous Mothers pact to offer solutions that keep you inspired, help you grow, and offer you a sense of belonging. Sagashus is committed to offering customized programming, products, and places to center the voices and concerns of the women that make up the Infamous Mothers world. I kept thinking, “Mothering is hard, and chasing your dreams while being a mother is harder. Every day, someone should be pushing and reminding women that they matter, their caretaking matters, and so do their ideas and purpose. Why not us?” - Sagashus.

Set to welcome the community in and around Madison, WI. Seating is limited to 280 spectators, so all supporters are encouraged to purchase your tickets at the time of reading this blog to ensure your ability to experience this once-a-year display of unique stories from unique women. This year’s presentation will take place at MyArts Theater (1055 E Mifflin St). This is a beautiful layout, especially where the networking will take place. Accompanied by a stage-like staircase, floor-to-ceiling windows, along the residential Tenny-Lapham neighborhood. MyArts Theater is the 4-story host to:

- 15 rehearsal studios and classrooms from 600 square feet to 2,000 square feet, designed for music, theater, and dance, including a sensory-friendly studio.

- A 300-seat theater

- A flexible performance studio seating up to 125

- Community space on each floor

- Visual art gallery space

- Costume and production shops

- Shared office space for anchor and community partners

- Two large outdoor patios providing gathering, program, and event spaces.

“These are our stories, not just one single story of success and failure.” – Midwest Mujeres founder Araceli Esparza. “Telling our stories will highlight stories from local women of color all orbiting work Midwest Mujeres has been involved in.
